Exporting Your Goods
Evaluating Your Export Potential
In order to export successfully, you need to be able to replicate or build on current success. Here are ten questions to help you clarify whether or not you are likely to succeed in an export market:
- What is your competitive edge?
- What types of customers use your product?
- Is use of your product restricted by factors like climate or type of facility?
- How easy would it be to modify your product or its packaging?
- What is the shelf life of your product? Would it be reduced by time in transit?
- Are there typically special regulations regarding your product?
- Is your product easy to transport? Does it need special handling?
- Are there special skills required to assemble or install your product after purchase?
- What type of after-sales customer service is required?
- What impact is exporting likely to have on domestic operations?
